Hartwig Art Foundation presents a one-time concert by artist and composer Tarek Atoui, featuring musicians from the Moroccan Atlas region. Originating from the Amazigh (Berber) community, these musicians will transform the space into a poetic gathering inspired by the majlis—the traditional meeting place in Arab and North African homes where guests and travellers are welcomed, offering refuge and coexistence.
This unique concert marks the launch of Atoui’s long-term research project The Sahara Chapter for Hartwig Art Foundation. Over the next three years, he will expand the geographical scope of his research into diasporic music traditions, forging connections between musical cultures and bringing together musicians, musical formats, and both traditional and invented instruments. Spanning North to South and East to West, the project will cultivate rich cultural exchanges in Amsterdam.
